Thank you Dan for your comments and support! I couldn't do this without you!
Wow, it's been quite a week since I last made an entry. There have been successes and a couple of challenges. Traveling for work is not conducive to my health routine, and my goal is to keep my routine going on the road as much as possible. With all the trips coming up, I have lots of opportunity for practice.
The week started off well. Monday I had a great nutrition and fitness day. Chase and I started off with a 3 mile walk, and the day ended with boot camp.
Tuesday morning was the flight. We took off at 7am, landed in NYC at 3:30pm, and arrived at the hotel at 4:00pm. Everyone headed for the bar, but I opted for the gym. One thing about traveling in a work group is that it is easy to drink your week away. In general, I feel like I need to detox when I come back from a trip, however this time I made the promise that I was going to put myself and my body first. I worried about being alienated from the group, but I didn't experience that at all. After my workout I walked up to 74th from 42nd and Lex, and across to Amsterdam to visit a bakery that my Mom and I saw on the Food Network. I bought cookies and took the subway back to times square. On my way back to the hotel I stopped in on my work buddies at the bar, didn't drink, bought some water, and went back to my room. I had dinner in my room, watched Project Runway, had a cookie (one of my challenges of the week), and went to bed.
Sleeping away from home is not easy for me. I tend to toss and turn all night, and with the time change, my body does not want to go to bed, but I woke up at 6am and headed to the gym before meetings. We walked around town all day for meetings, and at 4:00pm when everyone headed to the bar, I went back to the gym. Our group met up for dinner, and then they went back to the bar, and I went to my room. Now I wish that I could say my night ended and I was great, but I fell in to the bowels of craving hell (probably brought up from too much wine at dinner) and ordered room service. I felt like crap and went to sleep.
Thursday I tried to undo the damage from Wednesday night. I went back to the gym, did not eat breakfast (big mistake), and headed for meetings. Needless to say I was starving by lunch, and we went to a place called BLT Burger, the name says it all. I could have had a bun less burger, but as you'll see from my nutrition recap I did not. Then it was off to another vendor who had candy out all over his desk. All of the sugar from lunch had left me tired and some candy sent my blood spiking back up. Like I said there were a few challenges this week, but that's how we learn. After our last appointment we went to dinner and a show. I came back and was tempted to call room service, but remembered how I felt the night before, and went to sleep.
Friday was an early wake up call to the airport at 5am. The plane landed at 12pm and I was home by 12:30pm. I did laundry, picked up Murdock, had a sandwich (i couldn't find veggies to make a salad), and took a nap. Boot camp was at 4:30pm, and it felt great after being off my routine for the week.
Overall it was a good week, and a great learning experience. Next week I'm gone Wednesday through Saturday in San Diego, so I'll be sharing those experiences as well. I hope that all of you have a wonderful weekend! I'm excited to spend some time with my family!
