Wow. That was a difficult few weeks, but now the travel is over, the gym is open, my nutrition is getting back on line. It's time to focus on making some strides in my training and nutrition. :) I have to say that I'm ecstatic that Gravity Janes is open. The opening party was a lot of fun, and you can see pictures from that night and opening day at www.gravityjanes.com on the picture page. There's a whole slide show from the event and our first workout that next morning.
Nutrition has been iffy at best lately. Although, I have consistently stayed away from the high glycemic carbs during meals, my portions have been too large, and there have been many ice cream raids. Another issue has been caffeine. When I was pregnant with Maya, I kicked caffeine out of my diet. In January, I started drinking the occasional cappuccino which over a few months has turned into a daily habit. Not only is it expensive, but I find myself tired in the afternoon. This past week, I have knocked it back down to one cup of regular coffee a day, but over the next month my goal is to eliminate if completely, back to decaf. Overall, I have a few new things going on in my life. I can't share them right now, but it looks like next week everything may be all wrapped up and I'll let you all know. My stress has been a little higher than usual, but I'm ready to refocus on my eating.
As you can imagine the workouts have been awesome. Dave is back to true form. He hit us hard on Saturday and Monday, Wednesday was a great class including some Olympic weightlifting techniques, and yesterday just killed me. I have to tell you about yesterday, because it kicked my butt. We started off with 120 kettle bell swings (60 reps @ 18lb, 40 reps @ 26lbs, 20 reps @ 35lbs) and 75 sit ups. Next was the row. Now I have to say that I'm pretty proud because I rowed 2000 meters in 8min30sec. I average 1min59sec for a 500 meter row, so I gained 31 seconds over 2000 meters. I'm sure that it will get better, but I was feeling good yesterday morning. Next was 21 turkish get ups with a 15lb bar, the hard part was just balancing the bar. I'm glad that no one taped us. :) Then we ran .5 mile. Fran was up next, and I can say that I don't ever want to meet Fran again. Fran is 21-15-7 of alternating thrusters and pull ups. Dave was nice and gave us light thruster weights, 15lbs, and as you all know I can't do an unassisted pull up, so I jumped up to the bar, hung there, squatted down, and jumped up again. I can't even imagine what this circuit feels like with heavier loads and full pull ups. By the end of the year I intend to find out. Dave then wanted us to practice thrusters with a 45lb bar, so we each did 10, and our workout ended with 50 push ups. On top of my Dave workouts, I worked out at work Tuesday and Thursday. I'm trying to work out my technique of the various exercises for example I included thrusters in my routine on Tuesday and Squats on Thursday. Today Sheila (my sister) and I are hiking 11 miles, so it rounds out nicely a full week of good workouts.
I hope that all of you are doing well. Thank you so much for your love and encouragement.
Be Happy and Healthy!
Love,
Moe
